The "seven summits" is a term coined to refer to the highest mountains in each of the world's seven continents. They are namely Everest in Asia, Aconcagua in South America, Denali in North America, Kilimanjaro in Africa, Elbrus in Europe, Mount Vinson in Antarctica, and Carstensz Pyramid in Oceania.
Most mountaineers are attracted to scaling the heights of these mountains in an attempt to conquer them. There have been many success stories from hundreds of mountaineers who have been able to achieve the conquest. However, there are also lots of tragic stories that befell some of the mountaineers in their quest.
Back in history, the story of the first man to successfully climb all the seven mountains lives on. In 1995, Richard D. Bass, a 55-year-old businessman, fulfilled his dream when he won the race to climb the seven mountains competing against other mountaineers younger than him. Today, he is considered the world's most skilled and daring mountaineer.
