Adventure races are competitions that involve three principal disciplines, mountain biking, trekking, and paddling. The races, which last for a few hours or may go on for 10 days or longer, can also include activities such as running, swimming, and horseback riding. Often held in the wilderness, competing in adventure races also requires excellent navigation skills.
Here are two of the best adventure races for outdoor enthusiasts.
Wilderness Traverse
This is an annual adventure race held in Ontario, Canada. Teams made up of three to four people have two days to complete a 150 kilometer course in Ontario’s back country while trekking, mountain biking, and paddling. Competitors must be prepared to navigate through thick forests, ice-cold rivers, and sinking swamps.
Patagonian Expedition Race
Even more challenging, this adventure race is held in Patagonia, Chile. The competition requires a team of four to cover 1000 kilometers on foot, bike, and canoe within 8-10 days. The Patagonian Expedition Race is held in one of the world’s most remote areas, which makes this event extremely difficult. Less than 30 percent of competitors finish the race.
